Jefferson County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kansas. At the 2010 census, the county population was 19,126. Its county seat is Oskaloosa, and its most populous city is Valley Falls.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 557 square miles (1,440 km²), of which 533 square miles (1,380 km²) is land and 2.4 square miles (6.2 km²) (4.3%) is water.
At the 2000 Census, there were 18,426 people, 6,830 households and 5,190 families residing in the county. The population density was 34 per square mile (13/km²). There were 7,491 housing units at an average density of 14 per square mile (5/km²).
