Kingston is located in Caldwell County, and serves as the county seat. According to the 2020 census, 290 people make their homes in Kingston. That reflects a decrease from the 2010 census, which recorded 378 residents.
The origins of the city can be traced back to the 1840s. The layout for the city streets was created in 1843, and construction on homes and a city center began shortly afterward. During that same year, the first post office was established. It's still in operation today.
For the name of the new city, it was decided to honor Austin Augustus King, who was at the time a judge. He would later serve as the tenth governor for the state of Missouri.
Several historic sites are found in and around Kingston. The Caldwell County Courthouse is an example. The community of Far West is also located near the city.
